Experienced writer, editor, and communications professional who excels at helping organizations improve processes and deliver effective messages to both technical and non-technical audiences.
I began my career as an IT professional managing many different projects. After receiving a Master's in Professional Writing, I changed course and became a technical writer/communications professional. I never looked back! I also received a Master's in Environmental Policy and Management. Most recently, I worked as the Managing Editor of NAEP's peer-reviewed journal, Environmental Practice. • Managed online content for a national environmental organization by creating, writing, and editing the quarterly newsletter and writing and editing content for the website. • Edited research-based journal articles related to the environmental impacts of the urban forest on local cities. • Edited U.S. Environmental Protection Agency guidance documents that required attention to style guide specifics and copyediting tasks. • Improved visitor experiences at the Rocky Mountain Arsenal National Wildlife Refuge by creating educational tools and quarterly newsletter. Key achievements at Denver Zoo: • Managed and created the Scientific & Cultural Facilities District (SCFD) report that supports the zoo in obtaining more than $6 million in unrestricted and restricted funds. • Lead the zoo’s ISO 14001 internal audit team that prepared an internal audit report and the sustainability team for the City and County of Denver’s external audit of the Sustainable Management System (SMS). • Secured more than $300,000 in grant funding that supported the zoo’s education, conservation, and general operating funds. • Created the zoo’s anti-idling policy that incorporates the City and County of Denver’s idling vehicle ordinance into the zoo’s SMS so that we help improve air quality by reducing vehicle idling, a significant source of air pollution. • Edited board reports, annual report, and other communication pieces sent to members.
