Content, textual content, is what drives the internet. Web sites that are designed well and without walls that impede search engines indexing the content have hope. Bob Meetin focuses on both creating web solutions that fit this need as well as on educating clients along this path. He says, "Creating web pages is now so easy that my sister's 12-year-old nephew, little Stevie, can do it." Dreamweaver, Ning.com, FrontPage, Yahoo Business Solutions, PHP and MySQL, Freewebs.com, Drupal, and Frog CMS are among the options available to use in managing websites. This discussion will give a 5000' view of some of the options available to you and/or your technical resources personnel in creating a website or managing web pages. We will also knock around a few "gotchas."
Bob Meetin worked for over 11 years with Sun Microsystems as a technician, program manager, and report developer. He was responsible for maintaining and/or delegating content management for the internal help desk's website. He provided support and escalation procedures, and maintained FAQ pages and help-desk reporting/metrics. After his time at Sun, he realized that managing websites and web content was not maxed out as a profession, so he learned HTML, PHP/MySQL web development, JavaScript, cascading style sheets (CSS), and search engine optimization (SEO) from the inside out. He has recently narrowed down his interests to content management systems in general and Joomla CMS integration in particular.
BWA governing Steering Committee meets at 6 p.m. at NCAR just before the program meeting. Any BWA member may attend, but to put an item for discussion on the agenda, please contact president @ bwa.org in advance.
